Safety Day at Smith Elementary

Nothing is better than getting to see all of our Safety volunteers in Wayne County each year.  The K-Crew kids always think they are wonderful and they are. When you are five years old, they are truly your heros.  Lots of times we take for-granted all the men and women that work so hard to keep us safe every day.  Thank You for all you do. Below is pictures of some of the great men and women of Wayne County explaining and demonstrating how to be safe.

Seat Belt Safety.  "Tell your mamas and daddy's to click it because you love them."

Demonstration of what happens when you do not have your seatbelt on.

Telling us how to stay safe and that the police are there to help us.

Stay away from drugs they are bad for you.

Pumpkin Patch fun at Poppell's Farm Pumpkin Patch

We had another wonderful field trip to Poppell's Farm Pumpkin Patch in Odum, Ga.  If you have never visited, and live in the South Georgia area you should check it out.  Your kids will have a blast.  We laughed, we sang, and we got lost in the corn maze.....  When we arrived back at school, several of my baby's were ready for a bed.  They were so tired. When we asked if they had fun, even the sleepy ones raised their hands and said yes with lots of energy.

Taking the yearly picture of our K-Crew Kids.  We had several not there so we were missing a few of the crew.

I see pumpkins everywhere.  To get to the pumpkin patch you have to ride on the fun, fun  hayride.  It's always a hit with the kids and adults.  They are so excited to run around and find the pumpkin that is just right for them.

I'll let you pet me if you'll give me some food.  Never mind you can pet me anyway.

More kids.  I think I will just rest.

The cutest thing of the day.  The baby donkey.  The kids loved it.

Another look

Take my picture please.

Can you say cute???

We love the cow train ride.

Corn maze time.

I wonder how we are going to get out of here????
 Happy Fall!

Fall, Fall...Oh how I love Fall

We have been very busy in room 6 over the last couple of weeks, and I have not posted. So...time to change that.  Here is some of the great "fall"tastic work my rock stars have been working on over the last couple of weeks.  I hope you enjoy.

Fall is in the air, and what a better time to learn all about Fall.  We talked about all the things we know about Fall, and it's a lot.  Our map could have had many more pictures.  If you would like a copy of the pictures click here.
We had lots of fun over the last two weeks making Fall crafts, and we have many more to make.  Here are some of our creations. I love making torn paper crafts.  Above is fall trees and candy corn.

This next week is Columbus Day so we talked and studied about Columbus on Friday.  They loved it.  They were able to tell me he had 3 ships, 120 men, sailed the ocean blue in 1492 and so much more.

Have a great week

I'm at it again...Moving the room around.

All my friends and readers that know me so well, know that I am always moving things here or there in my classroom.  Since moving into room 6 this year, I've had a hard time getting my arrangement like I want it. So......after school yesterday I got a crazy hair and moved things everywhere.  Now...there is no telling where things might be next week if I'm not crazy about this arrangement.  :-)

My table is now sitting in front of the "Reading Spot".  Hmmm, will I like this ? Time will tell.

Yes...my cute rugs are around the tables and not in the group meeting area again.  I now have different colors of duct tape on the floor.  They are sitting on the lines.  We have had this for a week.  Working pretty good so far.

Independent table is now where my table use to be.  I can't wait to see how group rotations go.  They will be confused.

Another view.  This is Kelly's table.  I left it the same for now.

Drawings and Letters and Writing Oh My.....

We have had another busy week in kindergarten land.  So many of our kindergarten rockstars are picking up their letters, beginning to blend words, and draw/write with details.  We finished week two of "Write From the Beginning", and it is amazing the improvement and changes already in my students pictures and writing.  I'm loving it.

Write From the Beginning Board.  The program says to write like 80% of your students write.  At this point in kindergarten, most students will only hear the beginning and ending sound.  So.....I began writing like that on the promethean each day as I model the writing lesson.  When asking how to spell the words, the kids just gave me beginning and ending letters.  It is amazing how writing this way, has made them want to try and spell the words on their papers even more.  It's been great.  Below is my writing from each day this week.

Here is my note from Erin Franks our Media Specialist.  She  gets the writing off the printer each day for me, so she decided to write me back.  I loved it, and laughed out loud when I read it.  It is on my writing board.

Sometimes when I sleep I have a dream.

I do not like snakes!  They scare me!!!
I like to eat cookies with a glass of milk.

I like to look at the flowers on a sunny day.

I made a list to go to the store.

Here is the sample of writing from each of my students for this week.  We keep one and send the other four home each Friday.
