I'm at it again...Moving the room around.

All my friends and readers that know me so well, know that I am always moving things here or there in my classroom.  Since moving into room 6 this year, I've had a hard time getting my arrangement like I want it. So......after school yesterday I got a crazy hair and moved things everywhere.  Now...there is no telling where things might be next week if I'm not crazy about this arrangement.  :-)

My table is now sitting in front of the "Reading Spot".  Hmmm, will I like this ? Time will tell.

Yes...my cute rugs are around the tables and not in the group meeting area again.  I now have different colors of duct tape on the floor.  They are sitting on the lines.  We have had this for a week.  Working pretty good so far.

Independent table is now where my table use to be.  I can't wait to see how group rotations go.  They will be confused.

Another view.  This is Kelly's table.  I left it the same for now.

Drawings and Letters and Writing Oh My.....

We have had another busy week in kindergarten land.  So many of our kindergarten rockstars are picking up their letters, beginning to blend words, and draw/write with details.  We finished week two of "Write From the Beginning", and it is amazing the improvement and changes already in my students pictures and writing.  I'm loving it.

Write From the Beginning Board.  The program says to write like 80% of your students write.  At this point in kindergarten, most students will only hear the beginning and ending sound.  So.....I began writing like that on the promethean each day as I model the writing lesson.  When asking how to spell the words, the kids just gave me beginning and ending letters.  It is amazing how writing this way, has made them want to try and spell the words on their papers even more.  It's been great.  Below is my writing from each day this week.

Here is my note from Erin Franks our Media Specialist.  She  gets the writing off the printer each day for me, so she decided to write me back.  I loved it, and laughed out loud when I read it.  It is on my writing board.

Sometimes when I sleep I have a dream.

I do not like snakes!  They scare me!!!
I like to eat cookies with a glass of milk.

I like to look at the flowers on a sunny day.

I made a list to go to the store.

Here is the sample of writing from each of my students for this week.  We keep one and send the other four home each Friday.

Rockin along in Room 6

There is so much going on in Room 6.  We have been so busy learning and having fun.  Below are some pictures of things we have done over the last couple of weeks.
Letter Pp - Pink, polka dotted pigs

We have been talking about friends since the beginning of school.  One day we made a tree map of the things a friend is.

We did a crumpled heart lesson.  When you say mean things to a person it hurts  their "heart" or feelings.  After you have said mean things it is hard to make the heart the same again.  We pledged to not say mean things to others.

We have a new writing series called "Write From the Beginning".  In this lesson we talked about the different types of hair.  The kids had a blast and loves it.  They laughed and giggled all the way through the lesson. It was so much fun watching them draw pictures with the different types of hair. It was even cuter when some of them would say "I have _____ hair". Funny.

This last week we worked on drawing our faces and adding details.  On this activity we drew the picture and then wrote our name below the line.  Pictures go above the line and words go below the line.

Looking forward to another great week in kindergarten.

Where has time gone?

I usually write each week about the events of my week with my class, but this weekend I thought I would write about my family.  We are in the process this holiday weekend of taking senior pictures of my oldest two.  I think back to 10 1/2 years ago when David and I traveled to Kazakhstan to meet our children.  It was a very hard trip, since we would have to leave our 3 year old Cooper who is also from Kazakhstan for month while we were gone to bring his brother and sister home.  It was very scary, because of the fact they were older and we hoped that we could help them feel loved and be able to adjust to a new family, language and country.  The road has not always been easy, but in the end I am their mama.  As the saying goes, "you may have not grown in me, but you grew in my heart."  My prayer for them as this year goes by, that they make wonderful memories, and that they know that no matter what they do or what happens I will always love them.  God may have had a different plan for my life than my plan 18 years ago when David and I got married....... but I would not change a minute of it.  His plan made me a mama to Alex, Galiya and Cooper.  I love you all.
